Tiger Softball Squad Drops Opener
WARSAW – The Warsaw softball team opened its 2013 campaign Saturday with a 4-2 loss to Elkhart Central.
The host Tigers scored a pair of runs in the first inning, but could not dent the scoreboard after that off Central pitcher Cassie Shelton. The Blue Blazer hurler finished with a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks in notching the win.
Central, also making its season debut, scored three runs in the third frame and added another in the seventh to collect the victory.
Kaleigh Speicher took the loss in the circle for the Tigers. She allowed five hits, while fanning five and walking two. Speicher also had a double at the dish for Warsaw.
Kayla Snider had two hits for the Tigers.
Warsaw (0-1) is scheduled to host South Bend Riley Monday at 5 p.m. The Tigers are then slated to play at Penn Tuesday evening and at Mishawaka on Wednesday.
Central (1-0) is scheduled to play at Concord Wednesday.
