Betty A. Sommer
Betty A. Sommer, 82, formerly of Nappanee, Ind., passed away at 5:25 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2013 at Golden Living Nursing Home, Elkhart, Ind.
She was born Dec. 21, 1930, in New Castle, Ind., to Gus and Ruth (Valentine) Spears. Her adoptive parents were Asa and Elizabeth Blount. She was married to Rev. Eugene Sommer. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sommer attended Portland Indiana Schools. She was a devoted Minister’s wife. Rev. Sommer pastored the Nappanee Church of the Nazarene for 14 years, and the Lagrange Church of the Nazarene for 19 years. She had worked at Blue Bells in Nappanee. Mrs. Sommer was a member of the New Paris Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by her daughter: Diana (Dennis) Williams, Elkhart, Ind.; sons: Mike (Becky) Sommer, Edwardsburg, Mich.; David (Lorraine) Sommer, Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; foster daughter: Kelly Allen Mishler, Lagrange, Ind.; grandchildren: Jim Sommer, Samantha (Chris) Caldwell, Michael Sommer, Matthew Sommer, Steve Williams, Priscilla Williams; seven great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sister: Beebe Permenter, Big Springs, Texas; and brother: Jim (Shirley) Blount, Portland, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Steven Sommer.
Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at New Paris Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Greg Hall will officiate and burial will follow in Union Center Cemetery.
