Eisenhower Elementary Junior Reporter Updates
Story by Carson Kerlin, Junior Reporter at Eisenhower Elementary
Good Afternoon. This is Carson Kerlin reporting from Eisenhower Elementary School. Today I would like to tell you about the fourth grade Famous Hoosier’s Project.
The Famous Hoosier Project is an Indiana history assignment that has been required at Eisenhower for many years. Students select a famous Hoosier, such as Knute Rockne, and do research about their Hoosier.
Students prepare a rough draft to present to their teacher. Once their rough draft is approved, students write their final draft on index cards and practice their speech, which is to be two to three minutes long.
Some students decide to memorize their speech. The students are required to wear a costume and present their speech in the first person. They give a presentation about their Hoosier in front of the fourth grade classes. Parents are invited to attend the presentation on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
My presentation was about the great General Anthony Wayne. I enjoyed learning some of the interesting details of his childhood and his adulthood. Some of my colleagues are doing Hoosiers such as Orville Redenbacher, Chief Little Turtle of the Miami, the Wright Brothers, Tecumseh and Frances Slocum.
I think the famous Hoosier project is a good way of communicating historical facts to students as well as parents. This is Carson Kerlin signing off from StaceyPageOnline.com!
