Jerry Lee Shaffer
Jerry Lee Shaffer, 75, Washington Township, Whitley County, Ind., died at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Oakbrook Village, Huntington, Ind., where he had been a resident since April 22, 2009.
He was born Sept. 2, 1937, in Whitley County, a son of Landy and Cora (Hennemeyer) Shaffer. His formative years were spent in Washington Township. He attended Lincoln School in Huntington and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1957.
On Oct. 5, 1960, he was inducted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged Oct. 4, 1966.
He retired from Dana Weatherhead with 33 years of service and was an avid fisherman and wood worker.
Surviving relatives include a sister: Genevieve Kneller, Huntington; and a brother: Donald ‘Gene’ Shaffer, Huntington; several nieces: Patty Cummins, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Judy Richardson, Columbia City, Ind.; Glenda Ray Elliott, Silver Lake, Ind.; Donalyn Kneller, Huntington; Monica Earlywine, Indianapolis, Ind.; Becky Krampen, Valparaiso, Ind.; Kathy Smith, North Manchester, Ind.; Penny Shaffer, Plainfield, Ind.; Pam Emley, Roanoke, Ind.; Paula Sturgill, South Whitley; Polly Cox, South Whitley; and nephews: Randall Trout, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Dan Shaffer, Huntington; Dick Shaffer, Huntington; Lon Kneller, Sherman, Texas; and Tom Kneller, Fort Wayne.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Harry and Joseph; and four sisters: Mae Hosler, Fae Freed, Ruby Trout and Janice Betten.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with the graveside service following at South Whitley Cemetery.
