Loaded Field For Tiger Invite
WARSAW – A star-studded field of ranked boys golf teams, highlighted by the hosts, are set to compete Saturday in the 2013 Tiger Invitational.
The 14-team field, hosted by No. 2 Warsaw, begins play at 10 a.m. at the Stonehenge Golf Club.
The tournament includes two Warsaw teams (Warsaw Orange and Warsaw Black) from coach Ben Barkey’s outstanding program. Also in the field are No. 1 ranked Columbus North, No. 4 Floyd Central, No. 6 Westfield, No. 9 Zionsville, No. 11 Crown Point, No. 19 Pendleton Heights and No. 20 Mishawaka Marian. Completing the field are Triton, Boone Grove, Lafayette Jeff, Homestead and Fort Wayne Canterbury.
The host Tigers opened the 2013 season last Saturday by placing second at the 18-team Hall of Fame Tournament in Peru. Warsaw shot 312 in the event to finish two shots behind team champion Columbus North (310). Columbus North finished in fourth place at the State Finals in 2012, while the Tigers tied for sixth place.
Senior Jon Schram, a Ball State University recruit, and sophomore Jonny Hollar each shot a round of 75 to lead the Tigers in the Hall of Fame event. Senior Evan Cultice shot an 80, junior Will Petro an 82 and senior Tim Ahlersmeyer a 90 for WCHS.
Triton took 11th place in the Hall of Fame Tourney with a team score of 342. Senior Ryan Rapp led the Trojans with a 78. Senior Quentyn Carpenter, who will also play at Ball State, shot 85 in the event. Carpenter shot a 35 Wednesday as Triton defeated Bremen and LaVille.
First tee-times on Saturday are scheduled for 10 a.m. at Stonehenge. The final groups are slated to begin play at 11:52 a.m.
