Marvin L. Goodman
Marvin L. Goodman Jr., 91, formerly of Winona Lake, Ind., passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at his daughter’s residence in Camp Verde, Ariz.
He was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Modesto, Calif., to Marvin L. Goodman Sr. and Susan R. (Minnix) Goodman. While attending Grace College & Seminary in Winona Lake, he met his wife, Dorothy E. Hay. On June 16, 1944, in LaVerne, Calif., he married. They were married 64 before she passed away on March 8, 2009.
After a risky Pacific Ocean crossing during WWII, Marvin and his wife, Dorothy, took a river boat up the Congo and Ubangui rivers to the Central African Republic where they would serve for 40 years as missionaries.
Upon retirement in 1986, Marvin and Dorothy established residence in Winona Lake, where he was active at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church where they were members, and he served as a former pastor there. He then moved to Arizona in 2009.
He is survived by two sons: David G. (Nancy) Goodman, Monument, Colo.; Paul M. (Marlene) Goodman, Pearland, Texas; a daughter: Anne (Robert) Hoy, Camp Verde, Ariz.; and his son-in-law: John Zielasko, Hemet, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and his sister: Eileen Miller, Modesto, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and his daughter: Suzan Zielasko.
His visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Rd., Warsaw, Ind. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake and officiated by Pastor Bruce Barlow. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
