Warriors Double Up At Northrop Invite
FORT WAYNE — Wawasee took the double, winning both the varsity and JV titles at the Fort Wayne Northrop Boys Golf Invitationals Saturday at Colonial Oaks.
The Warriors varsity club shot a 337 to win the title by five strokes over Columbia City’s 342. Huntington North (345), Northrop (351), Whitko (354) and Canterbury (362) rounded out the varsity field.
Leading the charge for Wawasee was the 81 from Tristen Atwood, followed by an 83 from Luke Jackson, 86 from Dylan Cousins, 87 by Mason Germonprez and 88 turned in by Maclain Herr.
“The conditions were miserable,” began Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “Extremely cold, wet and windy. I thought we played pretty well. Tristen finished fourth low medalist despite having some difficulty on the greens. We have things to work on but we are happy with the win.”
The JV shot a 352 to best Huntington North’s 363.
Jeffrey Moore fired an 80 to lead the Warriors and was second place on the medalist list. Cal Heinisch tossed in an 86, Chase Jacobs a 90, Mark Doll a 96 and Dominik Sanderson a 101.
“We kept from having a lot of big holes,” Coverstone said. “Obviously, Jeffrey played well. Cal and Chase also were solid.”
Wawasee will re-tee again Tuesday hosting Central Noble at South Shore, a 4:30 p.m. start.
