Warsaw Drops NLC Tennis Opener
PLYMOUTH – The Warsaw girls tennis team opened Northern Lakes Conference play Tuesday night with a 5-0 loss at Plymouth.
Sarah Boyle had the closest match of the evening for the Tigers. Boyle lost a three-set final to Mikayla German at No. 2 singles. German took the match 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5).
Allie Berger of the Pilgrims topped Jacqueline Sasso 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. At No. 3 singles, Carly Berger defeated Rachel Alexander 6-1, 6-0.
Plymouth captured both doubles wins in straight sets. The No. 1 team of Marissa German and Andria Shook topped Marley Smith and Olivia Wallin 6-0, 6-2. The No. 2 team of Emily Blake and Ellen Smith defeated Lindsay Sciarra and Anna Hall 6-1, 6-2 for the Pilgrims.
Plymouth won the junior varsity competition 12-5. Winners for Warsaw were the doubles teams of Sherry Wong and Wesley Cowan, Cheyenne Jackson and Bonnie Wong, Rosie Fleming and Casey Shirk, Taylor Smith and Abby Smith and Jennifer Katris and Jessica Marroquin.
Warsaw drops to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Tigers host NLC foe Northridge today (April 17). Warsaw then hosts Fairfield Thursday and plays at Columbia City Friday in a make-up contest.
