Dr. Scott D. McPhee, DrPH, CPAM, OTR/L, FAOTA, has accepted Indiana Wesleyan University’s invitation to become the Dean of the IWU School of Health Sciences, effective July 1.

McPhee comes to IWU from Belmont University, where he is an associate dean and the chair of the School of Occupational Therapy in Belmont’s College of Health Sciences and Nursing. He has more than 40 years of experience in the occupational therapy field, in education, practice and management, including 21 years in the United States Army.

He received his doctorate in public health at the University of Texas; he has a B.A. in psychology from the University of Washington, a B.S. in occupational therapy from the University of Puget Sound, an MS in hand management from the Medical College of Virginia, and a Master of public administration from Western Kentucky University. He has written more than 25 journal articles and book chapters.

“Dr. McPhee is a health care practitioner, an experienced academic administrator, and a gifted teacher,” said Dr. David Wright, IWU provost. “He was the inaugural chair of the Belmont School of Occupational Therapy, and now he will take the lead in building the Indiana Wesleyan University School of Health Sciences. Dr. McPhee is deeply committed to the mission and ethos of Indiana Wesleyan University. We believe he is just the right person to help us advance health science education at IWU.”

In addition, McPhee has been the Occupational Therapy chair at College Misericordia in Pennsylvania, and the program director for Occupational Therapy Assistants at the Academy of Health Sciences in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He has served two terms on the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Commission on Practice and the Commission on Education’s Program Director’s Council. He has worked on the Accreditation Council’s Roster of Accreditation Evaluators, and he was the chair of the Occupational Therapy Standards Committee for the International Commission on Health Practices (2000-2007). He is the executive director of the Physical Agent Modalities Practitioners Credentialing Agency, LLC.

The IWU Board of Trustees approved the creation of the School of Health Sciences in October 2012. Classes for the Master of Public Health degree begin this fall.
