Northridge Trips Up Warrior Baseball
The Raider varsity baseball wasted no time Monday night igniting a fire against Wawasee. Scoring four runs in the first, everything went downhill in a hurry in a 16-0 decision by Ridge in the five-inning rout.
Ridge scored four in the first, followed by three in the second, three more in the next two innings then a six-spot in the fifth. The Raiders had just 10 hits in the game, but were aided by seven Warrior errors in the field,
The combination of Shannon Baker and Brock Logan on the mound allowed just one hit to Wawasee in the shutout.
At the plate, Logan had a pair of doubles and was joined in the doubles parade by Sam Troyer, Payton Carson and Alan Grusy all adding one each.
Wawasee (1-5, 1-2 NLC) will suit up again Wednesday with a trip to Plymouth.
The Northridge JV also beat Wawasee Monday night, score and stats not provided.
In the ‘C’ team game against Concord, Wawasee’s late rally fell a run short in a 13-12 loss to the Minutemen in Dunlap.
Will McCarthy was 2-4 with five RBIs to lead the Warriors while Kyle Hand added a double and three RBIs.
Concord scored seven runs in the first and five in the third and held on as Wawasee (1-2) plated four runs in the third and sixth and two more in the seventh before succumbing to defeat.
Northridge Double Dips Wawasee Softball
A hot start by the Northridge varsity softball team never waned in a 7-1 win over Wawasee Monday night in Middlebury.
Haley Nixon gave up just five hits and struck out 10 for the Lady Raiders (5-1, 3-0 NLC). At the plate, Hannah Kistler did the damage, going 2-4 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored while Madison Schrock scored three runs. Northridge scored a run in the first then four in the second inning to open the gates.
Pitching counterpart Alli Ousley took the loss for Wawasee (2-3, 1-1 NLC), giving up seven hits and four earned runs, walking three and striking out three. Ousley did have two hits in the game while Kylee Rostochak drove in Kylie Norris for Wawasee’s only run.
Another JV shoot-out had Wawasee finally on the losing side, a 9-8 decision at Northridge. Wawasee led by a run heading into the bottom of the seventh, but Northridge was able to score two runs to win it.
Wawasee (3-1) had 14 hits in the game, led by three hits and two RBIs by Bethany Hapner as well as two hits and two RBIs each from Alexis Graber and Allissa Flores.
The Wawasee program will be on the road again Tuesday, taking on Elkhart Memorial in a rain make-up from April 17.
