Strong Field Set For Joe Harris
WARSAW – A trio of the area’s top prep golf teams will come together Tuesday for the Joe Harris Shootout.
The annual event, hosted by Warsaw, is set for a shotgun start at 4:15 p.m. at the Rozella Ford Golf Club.
The hosts, whose top squad was ranked No. 2 in the latest statewide coaches poll, will have a pair of lauded teams entered in the nine-team field for the 18-hole event.
The fine field will also include No. 14 NorthWood and a strong Triton squad, led by Ball State-bound Quentyn Carpenter.
NorthWood captured the Wawasee Invitational title Saturday at South Shore, outshooting the Tigers 305-313. Dylan Gessinger fired a three-under round of 69 to pace the Panthers in earning medalist honors on Saturday.
Tim Ahlersmeyer, one of three returning varsity regulars from last year’s sixth-place state finalist team, led Warsaw Saturday with a 74.
The Tigers have been led so far this season by senior Jon Schram and sophomore Jonny Hollar. Schram, like Carpenter, plans to play at Ball State next season.
Triton is coming off an easy day on Saturday as they dominated the Marshall County Championships played at Mystic Hills in Culver. The senior Carpenter took medalist honors with an even par round of 71 as the Trojans shot 308 to win the team title by 45 strokes over runner-up Bremen. Ryan Rapp shot 74 Saturday for Triton.
The Tigers and the Trojans just faced off last Wednesday on a cold and windy night at Rozella Ford. Warsaw won that match 311-313 as Schram led the way with a 73. Carpenter was medalist in that match with an even par 70.
The field for Tuesday will include Warsaw Black, Warsaw Orange, NorthWood, Triton, Wawasee, Rochester, Plymouth, Wabash and Fort Wayne Canterbury.
