Memorial Stifles Wawasee Tennis
ELKHART – The struggles in the Northern Lakes Conference continue for Wawasee’s tennis team.
Through five matches Wawasee has not won a single set as Memorial swept the visitors 5-0 Tuesday night in NLC play.
Memorial did so with strong play at one singles from Corinn Whitaker, who took down Esther Hermann one and love. Taelor Gross continued the beat at two singles, beating Katy Ashpole three and love. Wawasee’s Priscilla Par pushed Paige Robinson in the three singles court, but Robinson held firm in a three and four decision by the Memorial senior.
Haley Stouder and Delaney Gilbert continued their outstanding work at one doubles, taking care of Jada Antonides and Sam Prins one and four. Memorial’s Taylor Freedline and Maddie Robinson closed out the score sheet with a two and one win over Natalie Fritz and Ashley Larson.
Memorial made it a clean sweep in the JV competition, as well, beating Wawasee 5-0. Alexis Wilson, Mallory Thomas and Mariah Williams all claimed singles wins over Jaclyn Miller, Krissa Keaffaber and Chelsea Carolus. Casey Dibley and Cassie Knapp teamed together for a win over Molly Smith and Jazlyn Gehlhausen while Hannah Dillman and Abby Weaver took care of Brooke Fick and Katie Kuhn.
Wawasee (3-6, 0-5 NLC) will look to break its streak of NLC bad luck when it visits NorthWood this Thursday.
