Drug Collections Total 132 Pounds
The sixth nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back initiative, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, took place Saturday and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department collected a total of 132 pounds of drugs.
The Drug Take Back events provide a safe method for the public to legally and safely dispose of prescription drugs that are no longer needed or have expired. Collection sites were set up all across the nation where police officers collected expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs to be destroyed.
Officers at the KCSD collected a total of 7 boxes of drugs, totaling 132 pounds. All of those drugs will be incinerated.
The KCSD also maintains a drug collection receptacle that residents may use any time to dispose of those same expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The collection box is located in the county parking lot outside of the sheriff’s department on Main Street. It is monitored 24/7 by security cameras.
There is also a drug collection box in Syracuse at the Syracuse Police Department.
