KLA Awards Northernor Award
The Kosciusko Leadership Academy 2013 Northenor Award winning project team presented the $1,000 prize to board members from Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County on Wednesday.
The team’s project, “Rethinking Neighborhood within the Community,” offers a new model for how Habitat can operate within Kosciusko County that would allow the affiliate to better serve more families, the community and provide more funding opportunities for the affiliate to support itself.
Members of the team include Christon Clark, Kristine Hueber-Kinney, Huntter Randall and Rebecca Spitler.
“Habitat is the ultimate sustainable organization, however, it takes 21 to 25 mortgages to fund one house build per year, the affiliate currently holds seven mortgages.
“We came up with a model that will provide for multiple builds that will better utilize the resources available within the community, fill the shortage of affordable housing and provide a better foundation for the affiliate as a whole,” says Christon Clark, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County.
Rebecca Spitler, a senior medical affairs analyst at DePuy Synthes adds, “Having lived in Kosciusko County my entire life, minus college, I see the need on a daily basis for affordable housing within the county and have a strong desire to help Habitat grow in its mission.”
Rounding out the team were Kristine Hueber-Kinney, a residential coordinator at Cardinal Services and Huntter Randall, Crisis Intervention Team Coordinator at the Bowen Center. Having three experienced non-profit team members aided in the shaping of the model. Kristine and Huntter are also both life-long residents of Kosciusko County and would like to see Habitat thrive locally.
