Warsaw Whips Redskins
WARSAW – The Northern Lakes Conference portion of its schedule continues to provide the right recipe for success for the Warsaw softball team.
The Tigers collected their fifth win of the season Friday night, all against league opponents.
Whitney Sleeth fired a three-hitter as the host Tigers topped Goshen 11-1 in six innings in NLC action at the Tigers Athletic Complex.
Sleeth, with Warsaw ace Kaleigh Speicher out ill, took care of business. The junior right-hander notched her first win of the season in the circle.
Warsaw, which had won 9-0 at Goshen back on April 17, took control from the start Friday. The hosts scored three runs in the first inning and then added three more in the second frame.
Karly Jones led the offensive attack for coach Jim Speicher’s squad, which had 11 hits in the win. Sophomore Jones had three hits, including her third home run of the season. She also added two doubles for the Tigers.
Sophomore Taylor Stiver had two hits, including a double, and scored three runs for Warsaw.
Sophomore Sid Hernandez had two hits, including a double, and two runs scored for the Tigers. Freshman Kaitlyn Williams also had two hits for the winners.
Sleeth and junior Ashley Ousley each scored a pair of runs for Warsaw.
Warsaw, now 5-11 overall and 5-4 in the NLC, had just one error in the win. The Tigers were playing their fifth game in five nights this week.
Goshen, which had lost 16-0 to NLC foe Northridge Wednesday night, falls to 4-15 overall and 1-7 in league play.
Brooke Miller had a hit and an RBI and Emily Mullet a hit and a run scored to lead the Redskins Friday night.
Junior Taylor Caouette took the pitching loss for Goshen.
Goshen won the JV game by a 14-8 final.
Warsaw returns to NLC action Monday with a trip to Plymouth.
