Tigers Roll On In NLC Baseball Action
WARSAW – The Warsaw baseball team got another premier pitching performance Monday night.
The Tigers, thanks in large part to that effort from Jason Ferguson, continued their recent roll in Northern Lakes Conference play too.
Ferguson was sensational on the hill as the hosts pounded Plymouth 7-1 in NLC action.
Ferguson, one of six seniors for coach Mike Hepler’s squad, fired a complete game masterpiece. The right-hander allowed just three singles while walking only one and striking out seven. Ferguson needed just 83 pitches to baffle the Pilgrims, including 55 that were strikes.
Ferguson has definitely liked Monday home games. The ace, who improved his mark on the mound to 4-1 this spring for the Tigers, also fired a three-hitter at home last Monday in a 10-0 NLC win in five innings over Elkhart Memorial.
Warsaw, which has won its last four NLC games by a combined score of 32-1, improves to 9-7 overall and 7-3 in league play.
The Tigers, who have won six of their last eight games overall, piled up 11 hits off a pair of Plymouth pitchers in the rout.
Warsaw scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings and added four more in the fourth frame.
Caleb Moneyheffer continued his power surge at the plate to power the Tigers. The junior slugged a home run, a two-run blast in the second inning, and drove in three runs for Warsaw in the win.
The quartet of senior Josh Frantz, sophomore Tyler LaFollette, senior Shay Hepler and Ferguson each had two hits in the victory. Frantz and junior Justin Oberlin each scored a pair of runs for the Tigers.
Winning pitcher Ferguson and junior Michael Miller each had a double for Warsaw.
The Tigers will host Elkhart Central Tuesday in a makeup game at 5 p.m. Warsaw then plays at NLC foe NorthWood Wednesday, hosts Tippecanoe Valley in another makeup game Thursday and entertains league opponent Northridge Friday.
The Warsaw junior varsity team picked up a 7-2 win over Plymouth Monday. Jonathan Murphy notched the pitching win for the JV Tigers, who improved to 9-7 overall and 6-4 in NLC action with the win.
