Cooper, Ross Among Honorees By IBCA
Triton High School senior Trenton Cooper and Tippecanoe Valley High School senior Allyson Ross were among 40 students named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association statewide scholarship lists.
Cooper was named a recipient of the Marion Crawley Scholarship, given to members of basketball teams that showcase achievement in basketball, academics, participation in extra-curricular activities and service to one’s school and community. Cooper was a reserve on the Triton basketball team that reached the state finals this past March and was also a state finalist in 2011. Cooper, who played for coach Jason Groves, played in 17 games.
Ross was a cheerleader for the Tippecanoe Valley basketball program, and earned herself a Crawley Scholarship award. Ross was a cheerleader all four years as a student at Valley and was coached this past basketball season by Lori Stiffler.
Other area students earning a Crawley Scholarship are Nicholas Amor of LaVille, Cristian Barron of Goshen, Drew Benedict of Columbia City and Megan Strouder of Bremen.
The IBCA presented 34 Crawley Scholarships as well as a pair of Junior Mannies Scholarships, given to students with physical handicaps that excel within their athletic programs, and four Pat Aikman Scholarships, highlighting the same general criteria as the Crawley, but also for those looking to get into the fields of journalism, sports management, athletic training or physical therapy.
