County Approves $1.1 Million Road Repairs
This month’s Kosciusko County Council meeting was largely about fund transfers that were discussed in previous months, including a nearly $1 million expenditure for road work proposed Kosciusko County Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden.
During last night’s meeting, the transfer of the funds from the Economic Development Income Tax fund to the highway department was approved. The approximately $1.1 million approval will be used for several road improvement projects to be completed this year.
Currently, the county uses E.D.I.T. funds to pay for the Justice Building, which will paid off in 2015. Last night’s transfer was approved after the county advertised their intent.
A list of projects will be advertised for bids and, as the bids are received, the county will decide which of the road projects will get attention this year.
The Sheriff’s Department made a statement that while the officers are working hard to keep the deer population down, the struggle is constant. The department was also approved transfers from general maintenance and insurance for repairs and maintenance totaling $3,304.60.
County Administrator Ron Robinson requested the appointment of a replacement court secretary for Superior Court III. Since the resignation of Kosciusko County Clerk Jason McSherry and the appointment of his replacement, Ann Torpy, former court secretary Melissa Boggs has been appointed by Torpy to work as chief deputy in the clerk’s office. The court currently has no official secretary.
The council reiterated that the appointment will not require the hire of a new employee, it will simply appoint an employee already in the system to work as secretary for Superior Court III.
The council approved this year’s liability insurance bid for employees of Kosciusko County government. Only one bid was made, but the bid will make this year’s policy lower than last year’s.
The city will be removing some trees around town during the coming weeks. An estimated $15,000 of county funds in recent years has gone toward the maintenance of the trees which are already dead or currently dying.
The council is currently assessing damages found about a month ago to the Zimmer Road roundabout in Warsaw.
Rick Paczkowski attended the Kosciusko County Council to express appreciation for his reappointment to the position as president of the Warsaw Community Public Library Board. Had the council not approved it this month, Paczkowski would have left the library on June 1 of this year.
The next meeting of the Kosciusko County Council is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13.
