Warsaw Tops Memorial In NLC Finale
ELKHART – The Warsaw baseball team put the wraps on its Northern Lakes Conference season with a win Thursday night.
The Tigers topped host Elkhart Memorial 6-1 in the league finale for both teams.
Warsaw, which beat the Crimson Chargers 10-0 in five inning last month, improve to 12-12 overall and finish 9-5 in league play.
Memorial drops to 4-22 overall and concludes NLC action at 3-11.
The two teams will meet again on May 25 in sectional semifinal play of the Class 4-A Elkhart Memorial Sectional.
Josh Frantz and Jared Lemler each had two hits Thursday night to pace the Warsaw win.
Caleb Moneyheffer and Jason Ferguson each had a double and Brandon Shipp scored two runs for the Tigers.
Starting pitcher Tyler LaFollette, one of four pitchers used by Warsaw, noted the victory.
Warsaw scored a pair of runs in the second inning and added three in the sixth and one more in the seventh.
Cam Maxwell had two hits for Memorial. Jake Tucker had a triple and Daniel Asbury and Derrick Oley each doubled for the hosts.
Starter Danden Solomon took the pitching loss for the Crimson Chargers.
Warsaw plays Penn Saturday at 10 a.m. in a first-round game of the Tiger Classic at WCHS. Memorial faces New Prairie Saturday in the South Bend Clay Colonial Classic.
The Warsaw JV team concluded its season by beating Memorial 10-0 Thursday night. Zach Witt homered and moved his pitching record to 5-1 for the Tigers. Caleb Light had two doubles for Warsaw, which finishes at 12-10 overall and 8-6 in the NLC.
