Warsaw Softball Squad Drops Pair
WARSAW – The Warsaw softball team wrapped up regular-season play Saturday with a pair of losses to a strong South Bend St. Joseph team.
The Indians swept the host Tigers 13-0 and 19-0 in two five-inning games in doubleheader action.
St. Joe outhit the Tigers 14-2 in the opener, which was highlighted by an 11-run second inning.
Maggie Gillis notched the pitching win in game one for the Indians. Kelly Welsh had a home run and a triple for the winners.
Whitney Sleeth took the pitching loss for Warsaw.
The Indians scored 10 runs in the first frame of the nightcap. Anna Irons fired a one-hitter in the circle and Kelly Mrozinski had a home run and a double to lead the 21-hit attack for St. Joe.
Ashley Ousley had a double for the Tigers. Kaleigh Speicher took the pitching loss.
St. Joe improves to 20-8, while Warsaw drops to 9-18.
Warsaw plays Concord Wednesday at approximately 8 p.m. in a semifinal game of the Class 4-A Warsaw Sectional. St. Joe faces Plymouth Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a first-round game of the Class 3-A St. Joe Sectional.
