Wawasee Whips Up West Noble
LIGONIER — A lot would have to happen for Wawasee and West Noble to meet in a week in the West Noble Baseball Sectional semi-finals. But for at least one night, Wawasee relished a possible rematch after whipping West Noble, 14-1, in the Chargers’ home park.
Nate Hare had a huge night for the Warriors, going 3-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Kurtis Liston added two hits and two RBIs plus a stolen base.
Nate Prescott picked up his first career varsity win on the hill, pitching four innings of two-hit, one-walk ball with nine strikeouts.
The Warriors scored two runs in the first and third innings, three in the second and put the game away with a seven-run outburst in the fourth. West Noble’s Josh Chupp provided the only Charger offense with a homer in the fifth.
Wawasee (4-19) will face Fairfield in the first round of the West Noble Sectional Wednesday while West Noble (2-20) will get Tippecanoe Valley in its first game Thursday. The two winners will meet Monday in the first semi-final, NorthWood and Lakeland set for game two Monday. The final is set for Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Wawasee’s final regular season game is tomorrow afternoon in a rain make-up against Columbia City.
In the JV game between Wawasee and West Noble, Aaron Voirol had a big night, tripling and homering in the Warriors’ 8-2 win in Ligonier. Voirol also had a walk, drove in two and scored twice. Sam Rookstool scattered five hits in the complete game and also scored two runs of his own. Wawasee ends its JV season with a 13-8 record.
