Police Release Info On Arby’s Burglary
Warsaw Police have now released information to the public regarding weekend burglaries to local businesses.
As StaceyPageOnline.com first reported on Monday, two out of town men were arrested for breaking into and vandalizing the Arby’s restaurant at 1980 N. Detroit St. Jason A. Whetstone, 29, of Mishawaka, and Nicholas Lee Cline, 24, of South Bend, were taken into custody early Sunday morning after a parks department employee reported a suspicious vehicle at the Mobile One gas station next to Central Park.
According to police today, officers were alerted to the suspicious vehicle at 5:50 a.m. At about that same time, an employee of Arby’s called to report the break-in.
Whetstone and Cline were found in the vehicle and, a resulting investigation, found items inside the car that linked the two to Arby’s. Police are now saying there is evidence that the Subway restaurant at Center and Detroit streets and the Mobile One gas station were also entered by the two men. Investigators believe the two attempted to gain entry into Penguin Point restaurant, but were unsuccessful.
Extensive damage to the interior of Arby’s was reported. Cash registers and touch screen systems were damaged beyond repair, according to police. Katie Polk, whose family owns Arby’s, told StaceyPageOnline.com that the business will likely be closed for up to three weeks while repairs are made. Police estimated the damages between $50,000 and $75,000.
Today, Warsaw Police have filed official charges with the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for felony burglary by forcible entry and felony criminal mischief on the following suspects.
Both Whetstone and Cline were being held on $10,000 bonds.
The investigation is continuing by the Warsaw Police Investigations Division and with the Kosciusko County Major Crimes Taskforce. Warsaw Police were assisted by the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and the Winona Lake Police Department.
