Weather Alters Postseason Play
A rainy Memorial Day forced several area baseball sectionals to change their schedules.
The Class 4-A sectional final at Elkhart Memorial between city rivals Central (27-1) and Memorial (7-23) is now set for tonight at 7 p.m. No. 2 Central blanked Northridge 5-0 and Memorial rallied to top Warsaw 5-3 in eight innings in semifinal play on Saturday.
The Class 3-A sectional final at West Noble is set for tonight at 5 p.m. Fairfield is scheduled to play NorthWood in that contest. The Falcons beat West Noble 15-3 and NorthWood defeated Lakeland 12-1 in a pair of delayed semifinal games Monday night that were moved to Westview High School.
The Class 3-A Plymouth Sectional is scheduled to continue tonight with a semifinal matchup between Jimtown and Culver Academies at 5:30 p.m. The winner is scheduled to play South Bend St. Joseph in the championship game Wednesday at a time to be determined.
Norwell won the Class 3-A Bellmont Sectional title Monday with an 8-1 win over Eastbrook in the finale. Norwell edged Heritage 5-4 and Eastbrook eliminated Whitko 12-7 in semifinal games on Friday.
A pair of area softball regional games are also on tap tonight, weather permitting.
No. 14 Triton (22-8) is scheduled to play in a Class 1-A regional contest at No. 1 and defending state champion Lakewood Park Christian (24-2). That game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. in Auburn tonight.
Northridge, No. 2 in Class 4-A and the winner of the Warsaw Sectional, is slated to host South Bend Riley tonight at 5:45 p.m. in a regional game in Middlebury.
Other area softball regional games scheduled for tonight include South Bend St. Joseph at Twin Lakes at 7 p.m. and Fairfield at Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 6 p.m. in Class 3-A and Bremen at Adams Central at 6 p.m. in Class 2-A.
