IHSAA Reassigns Triton, Rules On Sports
INDIANAPOLIS – During its final meeting of the 2012-13 school year, the IHSAA Executive Committee approved the sectional reassignment of several baseball and softball teams and also ruled on coaches proposals in the sports of gymnastics and wrestling.
Due to IHSAA By-Law 2-5 (Tournament Success Factor), three baseball teams and two softball teams earned enough points in the previous two school years to play up one classification in the next two school years. The original realignments for 2013-14 and 2014-15 were announced on April 29 for
baseball and softball.
In baseball, Western will move up to Class 4A, Sectional 7, Northfield will be placed into Class 3A, Sectional 23, and Lafayette Central Catholic will play in Class 2A, Sectional 34.
In turn, New Palestine will drop to 3A and play in Sectional 26, Tipton will move down to Class 2A, Sectional 39, and North Miami will play in Class A, Sectional 50.
In softball, Adams Central will move up to Class 3A, Sectional 23 and Lakewood Park Christian will be placed in Class 2A, Sectional 36.
To accommodate those schools, Tipton will drop to Class 2A, Sectional 39 and North Miami will move down to Class A, Sectional 50. At the same time, Triton, which stays in Class A, will be reassigned to Sectional 52.
The Executive Committee also took action on proposals from both the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association (IHSWCA) and the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association with respect to gymnastics.
In gymnastics, a change calling for ties for individual advancement in the tournament series to remain and all individuals who receive the last qualifying score to advance was rejected 15-0. An amended version of the proposal to break all ties at the sectional and regional level and keep any ties at the state finals was then unanimously approved.
A proposal to change the inquiry process to allow two inquiries per event without penalty and to allow no penalty for the first inquiry afterwards that does not result in a score change was defeated 14-1.
In wrestling, a recent proposal that would allow schools who earn a berth into the IHSWCA Team State Duals event one (1) weigh-in exemption every two (2) years was defeated 14-0.
