Fort Wayne Contractor To Renovate City Hall
A Fort Wayne contractor was awarded a construction contract to renovate the third floor of Warsaw City Hall.
Harold McComb & Sons was one of four bidders in the process that will involve nearly $300,000 in renovations. Bids from Ideal Construction and Milestone Construction, both of Warsaw, Harold McComb & Sons of Fort Wayne and D.T. Construction Services of Silver Lake all submitted bids for the project. Those bids were opened July 5 by the Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety. (See story)
This morning, the three-member board of Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer, Charlie Smith and Jeff Grose voted to award Harold McComb & Sons the contract noting that, while it was not the lowest bid, without the 8 alternate options, it did come well below the lowest original bidder, which was Ideal Construction.
City planner Jeremy Skinner made the award recommendation noting that the approved contract is for $284,445. The original bid was $338,000 but without the alternatives that were included in the renovation process, $54,319 were deducted.
“I would still recommend Harold McComb because Ideal Construction didn’t make the mandatory pre-bid meeting or have a bid bond in place,” added Skinner. Ideal Construction’s bid was $334,800 with an alternate deduction of $40,514.
OrthoWorx will be occupying the third story of the city hall with an agreement to pay a lump sum of $180,000 for a 3-year use agreement. The Kosciusko County Community Foundation will pay the city a total of $180,000, or $5,000 per month which well help with the renovation costs.
In other B.O.W. business today, Warsaw Police Officer Ross Minear was officially sworn in to duty by Thallemer. Minear recently completed his probationary period with the department.
The Husky Trail Project is moving forward, reported Skinner. He said they are close to having a preliminary design completed. A pay order for $20,650 for preliminary engineering work was approved. (See story)
The next B.O.W. meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2.
