IDOE To Discuss A-F Grading System
The Indiana State Board of Education is scheduled to discuss the A-F school performance grading system today during its state school board meeting. Gov. Mike Pence and others have called for a review of the system after accusations against former Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett.
Bennett is denying accusations of improperly raising the grade of a charter school run by a Republican donor. He stepped down as Florida’s education commissioner last week. Current Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz says she is reconsidering the system amid the accusations.
The Indiana State Teachers Association has called for a moratorium on school grading until a “truly independent investigation” is complete.
