Tigers Take Home Opener On Links
WARSAW – The Warsaw girls golf team christened its 2013 home season in style Thursday.
The host Tigers toured the familiar layout at the Stonehenge Golf Club to the tune of a 29-shot win over Bremen by posting a 190-219 final in varsity competition.
Alexis Manwaring captured medalist honors with a 42 playing from the No. 1 spot for the hosts.
Elizabeth Meadows chipped in with a 45 for the winners, while Nikki LaLonde carded a 47. Kristen Watson shot 56 and Page Desenberg 61 for the Tigers.
The Warsaw junior varsity team shot 219, while Bremen did not field a JV squad. Morgan Fuentes led the JV Tigers with a 48. Aarshia Jain shot 55, Lauren Shaffner 57, Miranda Damiano 59 and Maddie Graham 62 for Warsaw.
Warsaw opened its season Wednesday with a third-place finish in the Plymouth Invitational.
The trio of Manwaring, LaLonde and Meadows, all returnees from last year’s sectional championship team, each shot 88 as the Tigers finished with a 381 at the Plymouth Country Club.
No. 2 Penn fired a 310 to dominate the invitational field, led by a one-under round of 71 by medalist Kari Bellville. NorthWood was runner-up with a team score of 358.
The Tigers also had a 117 from Jain and a 122 from Graham in the invite.
Tippecanoe Valley shot 490 in the invite, led by a 110 from Victoria Biddle. Alyssa VanMeter shot 116, Liz VanMeter 125 and Kara Eaton 133 for the Vikings.
South Bend St. Joseph was fourth in the field at 386. South Bend Adams was fifth at 403, followed by Goshen (410), Plymouth (412), Glenn (417), West Noble (420), Marian (434), Plymouth B (475) and Valley (490).
Warsaw returns to action Saturday in the East Noble Invitational at Noble Hawk. The Tigers tee-off at 11:45 a.m. Warsaw will then host Rochester Aug. 15 back at Stonehenge at 5 p.m.
