Samuel E. Bowman
Samuel E. Bowman, 67, of Pierceton, Ind., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at his residence.
He was born July 1, 1946, in Marion, Ind., to Enoch and Fern (Addison) Davis. At 10 months old, he was adopted by Gail R. and Betty (Weicht) Bowman. He lived in the Pierceton/North Webster area most of his life. He graduated from North Webster High School and was married on Oct. 27, 1973, to Diane Powell, who survives.
He worked as a machinist for Weatherhead Corp. and later Dana Corp. in Columbia City, Ind., and Syracuse, Ind. He also worked for RR Donnelly in Warsaw, Ind. He served in the US Army in Vietnam and was a member of the North Webster American Legion Post 253. He was affectionately known as “Gizzard Sam”. He liked to fish, garage sale, wheel-and-deal and enjoyed helping people. He loved his family, his granddaughter and his son’s dog Pepper.
He is survived by his daughter: Kelly (Tony) McMillen, Fort Wayne, Ind.; son: Eric Bowman, Pierceton; granddaughter: Megan McMillen; half-sister: Betty Jesse, Summitville, Ind.; mother-in-law: Claudean Powell, Leesburg, Ind.; uncle: Jimmy Bowman, Bluffton, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Beezley officiating. Military Rite will follow.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the North Webster American Legion or to the Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County.
