Squires Open With Win Over Warriors
NORTH MANCHESTER – While the Wawasee Lady Warrior golf team took care of business against the Manchester girls golfers Monday night in Syracuse, the Squires boys tennis team handled the visiting Warriors on the hard courts. The hosts won the opening match of the season for both clubs, 4-1.
Manchester took care of all three of the singles courts, led by a one and love roll by Max Karg at the two court against Todd Hauser and a four and love win from Brayton Spann versus Doug Hapner at three. Connor Eichenauer completed the singles sweep with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) marathon with Kyler Love on the one singles grid.
The Squires also earned a win at two doubles, where Morgan Metzger and Matthew Pegg put away Cal Heinisch and Jake Hutchinson four and two.
Wawasee’s lone win on the evening came at one doubles, where the duo of Dylan Houser and Chase Myers held firm to a two and three capitalizing of Dalton Day and Noah Cain.
In JV courts, Cameron Brill earned a 7-6 singles win opposite Heath Dierks and the combo of Leonard Kline and Kevin Carpenter swept Linus Kratz and Branden Scott 8-0 for the Wawasee cause. Manchester earned three wins, with Scott and Kratz each winning singles matches over Luke Smith and Matt Connett, 8-4 and 8-0, respectively, while Alex Day and Michael Willmert topped Nate Perek and Brayton Fretz 8-1.
Wawasee (0-1) will return to the road for a visit to Lakeland Wednesday, a 4:45 p.m. start.
