Hollar’s Goal Lifts Grace Past Siena Heights
BOURBONNAIS, ILL. – A second-half strike from freshman Meredith Hollar was all Grace needed to defeat Siena Heights 1-0 on Friday.
The Lady Lancers’ (2-2) defense was stout, limiting the Saints to just two shots on goal in the match.
“The women maintained good composure today in a physical match,” said Grace head coach Michael Voss. “We stayed with our game plan nearly the entire match. We had several strong scoring opportunities and limited our opposition to very little.”
Hollar’s goal came at the 66:45 mark of the second half. After a strong build-up of possession, Holly Bennett threaded a ball onto Hollar’s feet, and Hollar outran her defender and beat the goalkeeper with a shot from 12 yards.
Grace was credited with eight shots overall in the game with five shots coming in the first half. Mallory Rondeau and Carianne Sobey tallied two shots apiece for the Lady Lancers.
Carmen Barnhill posted the clean sheet in goal for Grace, making two saves in 90 minutes.
The Lady Lancers will be aiming for their third straight win on Saturday when they square off with No. 2 Olivet Nazarene, who was the NAIA national runner-up last season.
