Grace Tennis Team Rolls
MARION – The Grace College men’s tennis team earned a statement win in the Crossroads League with an 8-1 victory over rival Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday.
The Lancers (3-1; 3-0 CL) continued their defense of last season’s league title with a crucial road win over the Wildcats (3-2; 2-1 CL).
Grace won three points in doubles’ play, including a pair of 8-6 wins at No. 2 doubles with Michael Humphrey/Jose Marval and at No. 3 with Ethan Grove/Jack Wang.
Aaron Blevins and Daniel Sanchez rounded out the doubles at the top position, easing away for an 8-2 score.
The Wildcats managed to take one point at No. 4 singles and also pushed Grace to three sets at two other positions, but the Lancers proved to be the better team on Saturday.
Sanchez won 6-1, 6-7, 10-6 at No. 1 singles, and Blevins recovered from a first-set loss to win at No. 3 singles.
Ricardo Bedon, Marval and Humphrey were also victorious against their singles’ opponents.
Only three teams remain unbeaten in league play – Grace, Marian and Huntington. The Lancers will not face either of those teams until Grace’s final two matches of the regular season.
The Lancers face another league challenge on Tuesday when they welcome Taylor to Miller Field for a 4 p.m. match.
