Grace Hammers Huntington
WINONA LAKE – The Grace College volleyball team picked up its 10th win of the year in a dominant sweep of Huntington on Friday.
Seven players for Grace recorded at least four kills in a balanced effort.
The Lady Lancers (10-3; 2-3 Crossroads League) started evenly with the Foresters in the first set before breaking free. Ellie Harp handed out 13 assists in the opening game to lead Grace to a 25-14 win.
The Foresters (2-8; 1-4 CL) struggled to find their footing in the second set as Grace coasted to a 25-8 win. The Lady Lancers had 12 kills, 0 errors and 5 service aces in their 17-point win.
Grace sealed the sweep in the third set, winning 25-16. Dana Johnston’s ace set up the game-winning kill from Alix Underwood.
Johnston led all players with 12 kills, and Underwood added eight of her own.
Kaitlin Kerrigan produced five kills (all in the third set) to go along with eight digs, and Taylor Baird chipped in 4 kills, 7 assists and 2 block assists.
Ellie Harp had four kills on five attempts as Grace’s setter, tallying 25 assists and nine digs as well. Megan Johnson added six kills, and Annie Salazar ended with a match-high 11 digs.
Overall, Grace had 44 kills on a .343 hitting percentage compared to Huntington’s 20 kills and .043 percentage.
Grace will continue its league play on Tuesday when they host Mt. Vernon Nazarene for a 7 p.m. match at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
