Warsaw Sports Wrap – Sept. 17
The Warsaw volleyball team dropped a close three-set contest at Columbia City Tuesday night.
The host Eagles took the non-conference match 25-21, 26-24, 25-21 over the Tigers.
Emily Poe and Taylor Jagger each totaled 10 kills to pace the offensive attack for the Tigers. Katie Voelz and Celia Heckert each had nine kills for Warsaw.
Senior Poe also led the Tigers with two aces and tied for team-high honors with Marie West in digs as both had eight. Voelz and Delaney Goble each had one ace.
Setter Megan Chauncey had 30 assists for Warsaw. Chandler Stevens had two blocks.
The Tigers have lost four of their last six matches after starting the season strong.
Columbia City, which improves to 10-1, was led by a pair of Division I recruits in middle blocker Gabrielle Hazen and outside hitter Kalisha Goree. Hazen is headed to Northwestern and Goree will play at Ohio State.
Warsaw, now 7-4 on the season, hosts Northern Lakes Conference foe Plymouth Thursday night in the Tiger Den. The Tigers, who went 7-0 to win the NLC title in 2012, are 1-2 in league play this fall.
Soccer Squad Routs NorthWood
The Warsaw boys soccer team continued its unbeaten season by blasting NorthWood 9-0 Tuesday night.
The Class 2-A No. 6 Tigers improved to 7-0-5 overall and 3-0-1 in league play with the Northern Lakes Conference win at WCHS.
Zach Tucker led the way for Warsaw with four goals in the NLC win.
Sam Allbritten had a pair of goals for the Tigers. Chris Hastings, Juan Sanchez and Brad O’Cock each added one goal for Warsaw.
Miguel Rivera set up the attack with three assists for the dominating Tigers. Also picking up assists were Tucker, Allbritten, Matt Williams, Tito Cuellar and Brian James.
Warsaw won the junior varsity match 2-1. The Tiger JV is now 5-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NLC.
Warsaw hosts Fort Wayne South Side Thursday evening.
