YMCA Announces Second Matching Grant
In June, the YMCA announced a matching grant from the Dekko Foundation for pledges made until Dec. 31. Dekko is challenging the community to support the building of a new Kosciusko Community YMCA, which has a strong focus on youth development. Dekko will match each dollar contributed from community individuals and businesses up to $400,000.
A new, anonymous matching grant pledge was made in September to match pledges made from July until Dec. 31, up to $250,000.
Essentially, any pledges between now and Dec. 31 are worth three times the donated amount. A groundbreaking for the new facility is expected this fall, but when actual construction begins depends on the success of the capital campaign. The Y is projecting that the building should be complete in late 2014, however, the size, scope and timing of the new Y facility will ultimately be determined by the generosity of the community in support of this effort.
Initial plans for the new Y include a health and wellness center, lap pool, instructional warm water pool, multi-purpose gathering spaces, a youth and teen center, a double gymnasium and outdoor space for day camp. Facility renderings, construction updates, campaign news and information on how to donate to the Shaping The Future Campaign can be found at kcymca.org.
The Y is the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. All the efforts and offerings of the Kosciusko Community YMCA are guided by the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Every day, the Y works side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Through August 2013, the Kosciusko Community YMCA provided $73,004 in financial assistance to make sure that happens.
