Vikings Wallop Winless Wabash
AKRON – Nolan Sponseller made the most of his four carries Friday night.
Sponseller rushed for three touchdowns to lead Tippecanoe Valley past winless Wabash 62-20 in Three Rivers Conference action.
Sponseller had four rushes for 109 yards, including scoring jaunts of nine, 12 and 77 yards for the Vikings. For good measure, he also returned an interception 34 yards for another score in the rout.
Valley improves to 3-3 overall, but more importantly moves to 3-1 in league play in its’ bid for a third straight TRC championship.
The Vikings rolled to a 28-0 lead and led 48-6 at halftime versus the Apaches, who are now 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the TRC.
Senior quarterback Ben Shriver also had a big night for Valley. Shriver was 8-13 passing for 184 yards with touchdown tosses to Jonah Mikel (11 yards) and Brandon Webber (66 yards). Shriver also had an 11-yard run for a touchdown.
Garrett Bell scored on a three-yard run and Chris Torpy on a six-yader for the Vikings.
Valley, which beat Wabash 45-0 a year ago, is now 8-0 all time versus the Apaches.
Wabash, which has allowed 254 points this season, has now lost 24 straight games. The Apaches, who joined the TRC in 2006, are now 1-53 all-time in conference games.
Valley plays at Rochester in a huge TRC game next week. The Zebras are tied with Whitko atop the league standings at 4-0. Valley beat Rochester 27-6 in 2012 and ended up sharing the conference championship with the Zebras.
