No. 13 Raiders Blank Tigers
WARSAW – The Northridge girls’ soccer team lived up to its’ lofty billing Saturday.
The Class 2-A No. 13 Raiders put an exclamation point on another Northern Lakes Conference season with an impressive 3-0 win at league foe Warsaw.
The contest was rescheduled from Thursday night after lightning forced the game to be stopped in the first half.
Northridge closed out regular season play at 13-1-2 overall and a perfect 7-0 in NLC action. The Raiders had already clinched their fifth straight NLC championship prior to Saturday’s match.
The 1-2 punch of Lauren Blyly and Ellie Lengacher powered the Raiders to their 13th straight win on Saturday. Each had a goal and an assist in the second half of the victory. Blyly scored in the 65th minute, off an assist from Lengacher, to make it 2-0. Lengacher completed the 3-0 win with her goal, off an assist from Blyly, in the 79th minute.
Northridge opened the scoring in the 10th minute as Brennah Tadeo made it 1-0 with a tally, off an assist from Bailey O’Dell.
The Raiders opened their season at 0-2-1 with ties versus Mishawaka Marian and Penn and a 1-0 loss to Noblesville. Northridge has outscored its foes 59-1 during its’ 13-match winning streak and posted a 32-0 scoring advantage this fall in its’ seven NLC victories. The Raiders have allowed just six goals all season.
Warsaw saw its’ impressive winning streak snapped at seven straight. The Tigers tied Goshen 0-0 on Sept. 3 and their last loss came in a 2-1 setback to NLC foe NorthWood way back on Aug. 29. Coach Peter Lucht’s team finishes the regular season at 9-3-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the NLC.
Northridge outshot the Tigers 14-4 on Saturday. The Raiders also had a 6-0 edge in corner kick chances.
Raider keeper Julina Skow had four saves in the win.
Warsaw senior keeper Abby Schue came up with nine stops for the hosts.
The Warsaw junior varsity team won its’ flight in the Northern Lakes Conference tournament Saturday. The host Tigers defeated Wawasee and NorthWood in the tourney.
Warsaw will face Wawasee Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Plymouth Sectional. The Tigers beat the Warriors 5-0 last Saturday at Wawasee. Northridge will play either Concord or Elkhart Memorial Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Sectional.
