Former Prosecutor Examining State Political Run
David C. Kolbe has formed an exploratory committee for his candidacy in the upcoming election for Indiana House of Representatives for District 22 as a Democrat, having filed Form CFA-1 with the Indiana Secretary of State, Elections Division.
Kolbe has practiced law in Warsaw, Ind., since 1981 after receiving his juris doctor in that year from Valparaiso University School of Law. He is a 1977 graduate of Indiana University, South Bend with a B.A. in Modern European History after two years at DePauw University. Kolbe served as Prosecuting Attorney for Kosciusko County from 1995-1998. He has taught American Politics for Indiana University/Purdue University, Fort Wayne for many years and is currently a Senior Visiting Professor for the Center for International Legal Studies based in Salzburg, Austria.
His mission has been to travel to former Soviet bloc countries and teach rule of law to law students in European universities. He has taught in Ukraine, Latvia, Poland and Hungary. He previously traveled to Cuba on diplomatic/legal mission in 2002. He also traveled to Russia and Estonia in 1992 with Josh McDowell Ministries. Kolbe has been invited by the CILS to travel to Salzburg, Austria, in March 2013 to serve as instructor to incoming Senior Visiting Professors.
Kolbe has previously served on the Kosciusko Juvenile Justice Task Force as vice president, the Kosciusko Community YMCA board of directors as president, the Kosciusko County Bar Association as vice president, Democrats for Life of America as a national board member, Kosciusko County Right to Life as a board member. He is a member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association and the Indiana State Bar Association and has written and published numerous legal and political articles.
Kolbe is married to Kathy for 30 years. She is a musician and current keyboard accompanist for Tippecanoe Valley and Warsaw Community schools and is organist at Trinity United Methodist Church of Warsaw. They are the parents of seven children. Kolbe embraces the Quaker tradition.
The District 22 seat is currently held by Republican Rebecca Kubacki of Syracuse.
