Mentone Youth League Treasurer Arrested For Theft
A member of the Mentone Youth League Board has been charged with stealing approximately $50,000 from the youth organization.
Michael G. Fincher, a Fulton County resident, was arrested today by Mentone Police and charged with five Class D felony counts of theft. Police were alerted to the alleged missing funds on Sept. 16 when members of the Mentone Youth League Board said they were reviewing bank statements and felt funds had been inappropriately spent by Fincher, who was the treasurer of the youth league.
With further cooperation from the Mentone Youth League Board, the Mentone Police Department did an investigation of the 2012 and 2013 finances, which resulted in the warrants and arrest of Fincher for theft. The investigation found that, during the time Fincher was the treasuer, approximately $50,000 was misspent.
The Mentone Youth League Board plans to do an independent audit of their account to get a more accurate dollar amount of the missing money and so that they can ask the courts for restitution from Fincher.
Fincher was being held at the Kosciusko County Jail on a $2,000 surety bond.
