Barbara Joan Faris
Barbara Joan Faris, 71, of Pierceton, Ind., passed away at 7:22 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, in Mason’s Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw, Ind.
On Aug. 19, 1942, she was born in Harrison Township., Kosciusko County, Ind., to Dale and Frances (Rush) Plew. Barbara moved to Pierceton in 1950, where she graduated from Pierceton High School in 1960. She married Terry L. Faris on April 3, 1965, in Silver Lake, Ind. He preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 2004.
She retired from NIPSCO where she worked for 37 years, retiring in 1997. She also worked as an EMT for Pierceton Monroe-Washington, Township, Ind., EMS for 27 years and also for the EMS in Naples, Fla. Barbara did volunteer work for the Rescue Mission in Port Charlotte, Fla. She also served on Joyce Myers mission trips, traveling to several countries including Lebanon, Cambodia, Thailand, Honduras, Ethiopia and Haiti.
Locally she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pierceton, and The Order of the Eastern Star, Pierceton and for many years, the Kosciusko County Cattlemen’s Association. Barbara and her husband also raised Hereford Cattle for Seasons Harmony Farms for many years. Barbara worked with Habitat for Humanity in Kosciusko County, Columbia City, Ind., and Naples, and she hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
She is survived by two brothers: Robert (Joan) Plew, Pierceton; Alfred (Elaine) Plew, Decatur, Ind.; one nephew: Christopher (Gina Eddington) Plew, Bluffton, Ind.; one niece: Jo Ellen (Jerry) Deaton, Warsaw; two great-nephews; one great-niece; two great-great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Eastern Star service Monday, Oct. 21, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the funeral home with Reverend Mark Fishburn and Pastor Dennis Bollenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
