Raiders, Blue Blazers Roll In Sectional
WARSAW – There were no surprises Thursday night in the opening round of the Warsaw Sectional.
Favorites Northridge and Elkhart Central each earned 3-0 wins in first-round volleyball matches of the Class 4-A tournament.
The Raiders opened the night by downing Northern Lakes Conference foe Goshen 25-7, 25-14, 25-14.
The Blue Blazers then capped the evening by defeating Concord 25-15, 25-23, 25-11.
Northridge (26-7) meets Central (26-3) Saturday back at Warsaw at 11 a.m. in a semifinal matchup. Six-time defending champion Elkhart Memorial (22-11) then faces host Warsaw (25-7) in the second semifinal. The winners meet at 7 p.m. Saturday in the sectional finale.
Central defeated Northridge twice during the regular season, winning 2-0 in the Prairie Heights Invitational Aug. 31 and 2-1 in the Goshen Invitational Sept. 21.
Memorial and Warsaw split in two regular-season meetings. The Crimson Chargers won 26-24, 10-25, 25-17, 25-18 in the Northern Lakes Conference match at Warsaw on Aug. 29 and the Tigers won 26-24, 25-19 in the Michigan City Invitational on Sept. 21.
Morgan Miller led the way for Northridge with a strong all-around match. Miller had nine kills, three aces, 16 assists and 10 digs. Kelly Miller led the Raiders with 14 kills.
Kayci Troyer and Calsey Gruzdov each had five kills for Goshen, which closes the season at 9-23.
Senior star Azariah Stahl powered the Central win. The Purdue recruit skied for 22 kills and added three blocks in the victory.
Tyler Roberson had eight kills and three blocks and Mackenzie Granitz seven kills and nine digs for Concord, which concludes the year at 21-13.
