Beaman Home Capital Campaign Nearing Goal
When completed by the end of 2014, the new Beaman Home will provide an outreach centerĀ and a shelter for victims of domestic violence. It will also be able to accommodate all administrative personnel under the same roof.
On Tuesday night, The Beaman Home welcomed board members and members of the public to tour its newly purchased facility at 603 N. Parker St., Warsaw, and explain plans for the future. Tracie Hodson is executive director for The Beaman Home and explained that the new building will be completely gutted and renovated and a two-story addition will be added on to allow the center to operate in more suitable quarters and be able to accommodate more victims of domestic abuse and violence than the current house.
While in the past The Beaman Home has maintained an unlisted location, Hodson said the new shelter and outreach center will have state-of-the-art technology and security and they want it to be a place where victims know they come any time. It will be staffed by trained employees and volunteers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. “We want it to be a community center for victims,” she explained.
Currently, The Beaman Home emergency shelter, the outreach services office and the basic needs center are located in three different locations in Warsaw.
When completed, the new facility will house 10 suite style rooms and 5 bathrooms – one bathroom will be shared by two families – a resource library, an 800 square foot indoor playroom, a great room for kids and adult activities, a training kitchen, administrative offices, a private consult room, the main check-in area with security monitors and a controlled entry system.
“We will also be able to accommodate men at the shelter,” said Hodson. The Beaman Home does assist male victims of domestic violence, but the current shelter does not have the ability to house men so the shelter works with a local hotel. “We don’t see many men, but our services are available to them.”
A capital campaign is now underway to raise the necessary funds to begin the renovations and construction at the new location by Spring 2014. Currently, the campaign has raised $1.2 million, but $586,811 is still needed.
“We hope to break ground in the spring,” said Hodson, noting fundraising efforts are continuing. Donations may be made to The Beaman Home Capital Campaign, P.O. Box 12, Warsaw, IN 46580.
