On The Edge: The Tiger Bowl
Article by Skyler Lampkin, On The Edge Student Reporter Edgewood Middle School
On a cold and wet Tuesday night the Edgewood Tigers took the field for the grudge match with the across-town rivals, the Lakeview Tigers. Edgewood eighth grade had already beaten Lakeview once earlier that year. This time though, Lakeview came to play in our backyard. It’s just like playing backyard football, but it means a lot more. It was the first game of the conference playoffs.
Finally, it became kickoff time. They chose to defer to the second half. Lakeview kicked it short right to Camden. He gained about three yards and then he just took the ball down to the ground. As soon as the whistle blew, the starting offense went out onto the field of battle with our quarterback, Tristan, leading the way.
Lakeview held us to a no score drive. We had a good drive but failed to score. Our defense was up. We are lead by our amazing linebacker, Lane . We held them to a no score. The first score of the game was on our second drive. It was a run right up the gut for 62 yards. Luke broke a total of three tackles on that play. Delp also caught a pass from Larsh for the two point conversion. The score at the end of the half was, Lakeview 0, Edgewood 8.
Lakeview came out strong. But we came out stronger. Lakeview held our offense for the entire half. Their offense was destroying our defense in the third quarter. They ran 65 yards right up the gut for a touchdown. The quarterback threw it to his right tight end for a good two point conversion. That was Lakeview’s only score. Both team’s offenses were having a bad day. This game was a defensive game. There is nothing better than that. Final Score, Lakeview Tigers, 8… Edgewood Tigers, 16!
“They are good because they have the football mentality that every good football player has,” Coach Bass said. “That’s why we are 8-0, because we won’t let people beat us.”
