Shoun was arrested by Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department deputies at the scene of the crime on Friday night for unrelated charges. However, from the beginning police did call him a “person of interest” in the apparent stabbing death of Tiana E. Alter, 17.
The ECSD today sent a request to the Elkhart County Prosecutor requesting the formal murder charge be filed. Shoun is currently in the Elkhart County Jail where he is being held on a warrant for failing to return to lawful detention, a Class D felony.
Shoun’s criminal history dates to 2004 and includes convictions for possession of a handgun without a permit, false informing, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, minor consumption and being a habitual traffic violator.
