Poor First Half Costly To Grace
FORT WAYNE – A late rally was not enough to erase a woeful first half for the Grace College women’s basketball team, helping Indiana Tech to an 86-70 victory on Wednesday night.
The 20th-ranked Lady Lancers (2-2) were outscored 47-25 in the first half as the Warriors made a sizzling 53 percent of their field goals.
The score was close at 14-12 through the midway point of the first period, but Grace found the rims unforgiving for the remainder of the half. The Lady Lancers made just 5-of-19 from the floor over the final 10:30 of the half, allowing the Warriors (2-2) to take over the game on a 33-13 run.
Grace outscored Indiana Tech by six in the second half, but their efforts were too late. The Lady Lancers nearly pulled themselves back into contention with an 18-5 run, bringing the score to 76-66 with 2:19 to play.
Juaneice Jackson led Grace in scoring with 21 points, including four 3-pointers. She also had five rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Allison Kauffman recorded a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, Sarah Feasby tallied seven points, six rebounds and three assists, and Darian Patton added six points and five boards. Dariyan Morris, in her first career start, finished with 10 points and three assists.
As a team, Grace committed 21 turnovers and shot just 36 percent from the floor for the game.
The Lady Lancers will look to recover on Saturday when they host IU-Northwest for a 7 p.m. game at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
