Emergency personnel responded to the two car accident at CRs 100 East and 300 North, in Warsaw where Francisco J. Gonzalez, 25, failed to yield the right of way to an SUV. Gonzalez was trapped inside the passenger car and had to be extricated by the Leesburg/Plain Township Fire Department. He was then airlifted to Lutheran Hospital for treatment of what was believed to be minor internal injuries.
The accident happened at 7:28 p.m. and involved an SUV, driven by Brett A. Anderson, 43, Warsaw. Anderson was northbound on 100 East when Gonzalez pulled into his path. A 5-year-old child in Anderson’s vehicle was treated on scene by MTEMS medics for complaints of back pain.
Gonzalez was just sentenced in court Thursday for an accident from October 2012 in which he was driving drunk and collided with a horse-drawn wagon. The horse was killed in the accident and Gonzalez fled the scene. According to the accident report, a search warrant was obtained and a legal blood was taken at Lutheran Hospital Friday night.
Lutheran Air 2 from Wabash was summoned to land in a field at the scene. Fire officials say it took the Wabash-based helicopter more than 40 minutes to reach the scene. CR 100 East was closed down for just over an hour.
Damages in the accident were estimated at up to $50,000.
