Carolyn L. (Moore) Johnston
Carolyn L. (Moore) Johnston, 70, a resident of Columbia Township, died at 3:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, in the Parkview Oaks following a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born March 5, 1943, in Anderson, Ind., a daughter of Don and Ruth (Sheefel) Moore. Her family made their home in Wabash where she spent her formative years, later moving to Warsaw graduating from the Warsaw High School with the Class of 1961.
On June 4, 1961, she was united in marriage to David L. Johnston and they resided in Warsaw until April 1962, when they moved to Columbia City where Mr. Johnston was associated in the operation of the Penguin Point Restaurant.
In 1971, the Johnston’s purchased The Nook restaurant in Columbia City which they continue to operate.
She is survived by her husband: David; two sons: Lance (Brenda) Johnston, Wheaton, Ill.; Daniel (Shanna) Johnston, Columbia City, Ind.; five grandchildren: Ashley Davis, Amy Johnston, Lydia Ruter, Levi Johnston and Linzi Johnston; two great-grandchildren: Milo Meurlott and Walker Evan Davis; and three brothers: Michael Moore, Warsaw, Ind.; Steve Moore, Muncie, Ind.; and Bill Moore, Secrist Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister: Ellen Turner.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the funeral home. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lynn Morey, brother-in-law of Mrs. Johnston, officiating. The burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery.
