Rev. George Webster Sr.
Rev. George Webster Sr., 92, of South Whitley, Ind., passed away at 10:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, in his residence.
On Oct. 5, 1920, he was born in Booneville, Whitley County, Ind., to Dallas and Elzie (Bryant) Webster. He married Betty J. Sroufe on May 7, 1941, in Sidney, Ind., who preceded him in death on May 24, 1997. He then married Mary Belle Chandler on June 1, 1998, who also preceded him in death.
George was a lifelong resident of Whitley County. He graduated from Larwill High School in 1937 where he played on the varsity basketball team. He was a self-employed farmer and he was also employed at the Red Comet Gas Station, Warsaw, Ind. George was licensed as a minister in 1967. He served as a minister with United Pentecostal Church International in Hazelwood, Missouri.
He was a member of United Pentecostal Church, Warsaw. George loved playing baseball and basketball. He was a very good typist, typing 135 words per minute and he also loved to debate.
George is survived by four daughters: Shirley (Reverend Robert) Henson, Grand Blanc, Mich.; Judy (Dallas) Alsman, South Whitley; Linda Hartzell, Foley, Ala.; and Brenda Hartzell, Atmore, Ala.; his son: George (Janice) Webster Jr., Columbia City, Ind.; his step-son: Reverend Buddy (Patti) Chandler, Warsaw; four step-daughters: Mary (James) Conway, North Webster, Ind.; Kathy Hutchinson, Alabama; Anita (Jack) Stump, Silver Lake, Ind.; and Connie Chandler, Pierceton, Ind.; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first and second wives; seven brothers and sisters; a grandson: Brent Alsman; a son-in-law: Reverend Michael Hartzell; and a grandson-in-law: Dusty Williams.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in United Pentecostal Church, Warsaw, with Pastor Dan Cox officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery, South Whitley.
