Woman Recalls Severity Of Storm
As Marcella Franks sat processing bills, her husband and daughter downstairs in their Warsaw home, she paid no thought to the severity of the storm developing outside. It wasn’t until sirens blared throughout Warsaw that Franks and her family realized the threat that had developed.
Franks stated today, almost 24 hours after the storm, that it was only 30 seconds after she and her family had entered the basement that they heard the crashing sound of a tree slamming into the roof of their home.
As the storm cleared and the family emerged from the basement, Franks stated she remains in shock over what she would see. Not only had the tree outside of the family’s home twisted and crash into the home, but the roof of the barn was blown completely off causing stored hay bails to spill into the dirt and mud below.
Their home, which is located on 100 South just past Rozella Road, was not the only home in the area to experience damages. According to Franks, a home nearby on 400 West had a fifth wheel trailer explode. Franks said though the cause of the explosion is uncertain, all that remains of the trailer is the heater. In addition, Franks reported a neighbor’s carport blew away in storm as well as the roofs of other surrounding barns.
Though Franks and her family have much rebuilding and repairing to do today, she admits the predominant feeling she has is thankfulness. Franks said following the storm, she and her husband and daughter all prayed together giving thanks for their safety. In addition to the safety of her family, Franks was also happy to note that all of the families livestock, which included three baby calves, were safe from the destruction of the barn.
