Warsaw Swimmers Third In Own Invite
WARSAW – The Warsaw boys and girls swim teams each notched third-place finishes Saturday in their own invitational.
Penn won both the boys and girls team titles in the invitational.
The Kingsmen won the boys championship with 722 points. Elkhart Central was runner-up with 488, followed by Warsaw with 471. Muncie Central was fourth with 289, followed by Lafayette Jeff (135), Wabash (33) and Fort Wayne Northrop (32).
Spencer Davidson had another strong day to lead the Tigers. The junior won the 100 breaststroke event in an invitational record time of 59.02. Davidson also teamed with junior Jayden Parrett and sophomores Zach Taylor and Matt Wildman to take second place in the 200 medley relay race in a time of 1:40.99.
Davidson was also part of the runner-up 400 freestyle relay team for Warsaw. He teamed with Parrett, junior Josh Miller and sophomore Ethan Cook for a second place performance in 3:26.62.
The trio of Taylor, Parrett and Miller each had second place finishes in individual events for coach Nate Long’s talented team. Taylor was second in the 200 IM in a time of 2:06.20, while Parrett was runner-up in the 100 freestyle in a time of 49.64 and Miller placed second in the 100 backstroke in a time of 57.36.
Penn captured the girls team championship by racking up 786 points. Muncie Central was second with 415.5 point with the host Tigers third with 303. Elkhart Central was fourth with 283 points, followed by South Bend Riley (237), Lafayette Jeff (120.5), Wabash (15) and Fort Wayne Northrop (10).
Freshman Brenna Morgan led the way for the Warsaw ladies. Morgan was third in the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.95 and also captured third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.84.
Senior Ashley VanWormer placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:12.95 for Warsaw. VanWormer also teamed with Morgan, senior Cynthia Juarez and sophomore Erin Sandberg to take fourth place in the 200 freestyle relay event with a time of 1:48.43.
Warsaw returns to action Tuesday night with a Northern Lakes Conference triangular at Northridge versus the host Raiders and Elkhart Memorial.
