Triton Ladies Drop NSC Opener
KNOX – The Triton girls basketball team began play in the Northern State Conference with a 65-63 overtime loss at Knox Saturday night.
The Trojans have won back-to-back NSC championships the last two years with a 13-1 mark in league play. Triton finished a perfect 7-0 in conference action last season.
Triton used a huge fourth quarter rally to force overtime. The Trojans trailed the Redskins 51-38 before outscoring the hosts 18-5 in the final period to tie the game at 56-56.
Kylie Mason had a huge night for Triton. The junior guard tossed in a game-high 28 points, including hitting 6-10 from 3-point range.
Taylor Hatfield had 13 points and Mallorie Jennings had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Trojans. Krystal Sellers added seven points for Triton.
Triton, which drops to 3-3 overall with its third loss in the last four games, hit 9-22 from 3-point range. The Trojans were just 18-31 from the free throw line in the loss.
Knox shot an outstanding 23-44 from the field in the win. The Redskins, who improve to 2-3 overall, were 13-21 from the free throw line.
Sarah Coad scored 19 points and Rachel Lenig had 18 to lead Knox. Kara Howard had 14 points for the winners.
Triton hosts Tippecanoe Valley Wednesday. Knox plays at Oregon-Davis on Friday night.
